Major Lag on standard SMS application

Whenever i get a new message and open it in the standard htc sms app, it laggs really bad, then i hit the back button and try and open another new message and it takes almost a min. What could be causing this and do i need to go back to handcent or a third party sms app

Might be the number of SMS messages on your device... I prefer Go SMS in the Lite version... it's very quick and optimized... plus they continually do updates to the app, unlike the stock SMS app.

This is not new. here is the work around:

Messages
menu
settings
check "delete old messages when limit is reached"
Set a limit. (default 200/per and 20 mms works fine.)

This fixed my lag issues with the standard sms app.
you can try 3rd party message apps if you wish, but from my experience you can see the same Issues with them as well.
