Major lag problems and hangups

I"m having tons of lag on this unit. It is WAY slower than my HTC Thunderbolt. Just opening an app can sometimes take 2-5 seconds. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm so disappointed. I wanted to show this off to my family over Christmas but I was too embarrassed to let them play with it. I expected so much more. Anyone else having the issues I am? I think I'm going to take a video my normal use and put it up to show how bad the hangups are... I have the same apps that I have on my thunderbolt so I don't understand the issue. I did a factory wipe yesterday and restored only the apps I really need and I'm still having the same problems. Straight out of the box this thing is just so very laggy and hanging up all the time. Confused.

Is there any way to see how much RAM is being used? I haven't had an Android device yet. I'm wondering if I should wait for 2GB tablets with how advanced gaming and everything is getting. Otherwise maybe the apps are just having trouble with the processor?

let me ask you something, you said " Straight out of the box this thing is just so very laggy" does that literaly mean that it was like that even before you started installing apps on it? also when you did the factory wipe, BEFORE you installed all your apps again it was still laggy right? the reason I'm asking this is because you may have installed some app on honecomb which works perfectly on HTC but is incompatible with the tablet.. the threads with multiple issues I'm reading here make me really worry about my tablet coming in on Jan 3rd... and I returned the OG Transformer back to bb earlier this year cuz it had serious touch screen problems...

OMG, anyone around here NOT having problems with the Prime?... I am starting to consider buying other device...

actually it got not bad review ratings on amazon 90% of the people seem to be happy with it...

Most of the apps I have loaded on my phone upload to the Prime automatically. I removed the ones I don't need but its a $500 quad core tablet. This thing should fly. I shouldn't have to wait 3-5 seconds when I hit the home button while in an app. I tried to doing a "factory data reset" but even out of the box with just my gmail, google talk and google+ and a live wall paper, this thing is painfully slow. I also get this error sometimes. "SORRY! Activity Browser(in application Browser) is not responding." "force close or wait." when using the browser. Not cool.

Sorry to hear that... where did you order it from? perhaps you may consider exchanging it. It may not be available in the stores yet but I'd definitely try to exchange it... it is really sad, like i said in my post on the other thread here I've never had positive experience with Asus... I really want this tablet and there are no other choices right now so I might keep my ipad 2 should something go wrong with my TFP :(

Have any of you seen the video on this (Android Central) site? It covers the Tegra 3 chipset using the (of course) Prime. It is a Quad Core but it has a 5th core it calls the Companion core. This core is the core that handles all of the UI stuff and it is not a terribly powerful processors. nVidia evidently wanted to keep the "Power" cores available to launch applications and play games.

The video:

This might explain part of the 'lag' issue you are seeing as it might not be as much lag as expectations of rocket ship performance throughout the system that it is not designed to provide. That and the fact that we are still dealing with Honeycomb which was not designed for multi-core systems. ICS could make this puppy fly but only time will tell...

im sorry to say, but this is why i am waiting to purchase mine, all you early adopters are experiencing problems, so that i wont have to. generally with technology this always happens, a new release sparks new issues and unforseen problems, its called the pioneering phase.

im waiting for asus to realize the issues you are all experiencing, so that they fix them, so that my tablet arrives perfectly working.

I did another factory reset and removed Twonky and Adownloader. Machine is running way better. Think twonky may have been not getting along with the asus dnla app that comes pre-loaded.

thats what i was saying... thanks for confirming this.

I have had the Prime for about a week now and just got back from returning it to Best Buy. I saw a problem where I could not boot when running on battery. There was also a graphic glitch (a twitch of the Asus screen during the boot process), and then about 10 seconds after that, the revolving circle which shows that the unit is booting just stopped. After that, I've seen different things happen. Sometimes, when just leaving the tablet alone, the screen goes dark about a minute after the boot process icon stops, and the tablet reboots after an additional period of time. Then the same thing happens again - the glitch and the boot process stops. Other times, I could do a long press on the power button, get the haptic feedback - then nothing - then I would do another long press on the power button, get the haptic feedback, and the boot process starts. I did eventually successfully boot from battery, but it took 4 tries going through the boot, stop boot, power button, power button, boot, stop boot...
When I boot with the unit on the charger, it will boot every time, and when the tablet is booted with the charger plugged in, there are no graphic glitches visible while booting.

Then I started having the tab lock up after being on for a minute or two after booting. This started happening today. I reset the tablet to bring it back to the factory settings (using the Factory Data Reset in the Privacy settings) and tested the boot again without the charger. It worked once, and then it locked up after approx. one minute. The power button had no effect and the screen would not respond to touch.

I'm going back to my Xoom for now, but will order another Prime soon. I just think I'll give Asus some time to work out the bugs before I order another one.

Oh, one other comment - I also had a problem with the charger plug that connects to the Prime - the cap for the connector came loose. I'm sure it can be glued - but really, I only had it a week and plugged/unplugged the charger into the tab maybe 15-20 times. It needs to be much more robust than that.
