Make my droid x2 louder

Hello everyone I'm new to android phones and the androidcentral community so I'm just going to jump in.I just bought my first smartphone a prepaid droid x2 from Verizon. So far I'm impressed with everything but the external speaker. I would like to make it a little louder using volume+. Does anyone know a good route to take to get my phone rooted? What would I need to do to restore my phone to its original state if I screw something up.
