making file modifications

I rooted my xoom this afternoon and installed the usbdisk.img. The final step indicates that I need to alter the /etc/vold.fstab file by adding dev_mount usbdisk/mnt/usbdisk auto/devices/platform/tegra-ehci

The problem is it doesn't say how to accomplish this.

Can someone tell me the commands needed to edit this file?

You can try a program like root explorer and see if it will let you edit the file. Or you can advanced pull the file, edit it, remount, and push it back over.

I finally got the file updates in vold.fstab but when I connect a flash disk I don't get anything. The USBDisk directory is there but it shows as an empty folder.

anyone else try this and would you have a suggestion?
