It's not a deal breaker... I think... but... minus 5 points for design. And a pop up notification when you've camera lens needs to be wiped from the smudges.

It has both facial recognition for security and iris scanning.

I read that the fingerprint scanner was a last minute decision. Samsung was all set to have the fingerprint scanner imbedded into the display. However as production got closer, they found that the tech wasn't ready. That was apparently the only open spot they could put it at the last minute.

Probably what I'll end up doing but it really sucks, why add a feature to a phone but make it inconvenient to use? Almost enough for me to decide against the S8

That's actually a good point but having to resort to fingerprint for a few apps occasionally isn't as bad as having to reach for it every single time you want to unlock your phone.

In that case I think the Iris scanner should be a good enough work around for me.

I only use smartlock at home. I don't want anyone to be able to unlock my phone at work if I leave it sitting around.

I'm sure the devs will have the iris scan APIs to incorporate into their apps eventually. Samsung Pay should have iris scan recognition out of the box. The fingerprint scanner is not in an idea place, but it's not like it's unsuable.
