Sorry if this has been covered but I couldn't find anything after searching.

Most of my contacts have multiple names and contact info that show up especially when I try to edit them. One contact has 8 google contact listings all from the same google account , 5 of them do not even have a name or any contact info in them. And there is a facebook contact that show up also.

Any ideas how to eliminate some of these and how to manage duplicates on phone numbers?

Have you tried editing/merging your duplicate contacts on the computer at Gmail.com? Once edited/merged/deleted, the contacts will sync with your Droid automatically.

Yeah the easiest way I've found for organizing my contacts is through Gmail on my laptop. Syncs perfectly!

+1..I didn't figure this way out right away, I manually went to each duplicate, separated them, then deleted the one with no info

even after doing this, when i go to set a shortcut for a contact it still shows muliple numbers with the same number. i find the sure way is to seperate and delete each contact 1 by 1

FYI Don't do what I did!!
I got in a hurry to delete the duplicates, I had over 700 contacts when I went to my Gmail contacts, and it wasn't till I was practically done that I noticed the page with the button that said find multiple contacts!!! I was clicking each contact making sure that I was actually deleting a duplicate when I could have saved A LOT of time by using the tool provided. Now I am down to around 250 contacts.
