"Mark as read" synch

When I use my computer to read an email (using IMAP), then turn around and look at my phone .. the email is there but never gets flagged as read on my phone. It certainly is flagged as read in MS Outlook, and it is flagged as read when I read the email from webmail. Yet for some reason, the S3 won't also flag the same message as Read. It just stays unread forever no matter how many time I hit the refresh. I even watched new mail come in onto the phone, and all the read statuses remain unchanged that shouldn't be. Whats up with that?

Have you tried closing the app (Clearing it from your RAM) and opening it up again?
Also, what app is this?

I've certainly tried restarting the whole phone to no effect. This is Verizon S3, android version 4.4.2 and the stock email app.

And you said this was with a Hotmail/Outlook account? Have you tried just using the Outlook app?
