Hi everyone,

When viewing apps online and trying to send them to the nook, I cannot send certain ones such as angry birds. It says to pick a device and "LogicPD Zoom2" is grayed out. I assume this is because the market doesnt know what a nook is, and does not think it will play certain apps. What is the work around for this?

Thanks,
Matt

I was told that it has to do with the 'fingerprint' of the nc. You can find out how to change the fingerprint at xda dev. I was told to very careful and after viewing the hack, I passed leaving to those with more skill and knowledge.

Instead, I'm doing this:
-- download and install Astro file manager, then find the .apk for the app you want to install, download it to your computer, email the .apk to yourself (I use gmail), use nc gmail app to view the email attachment, it will have a 'install button', click it and all is good.

Someone suggested this a week or two ago, and it hasn't failed me yet.

From another thread....

Open Root Explorer, navigate to system/, mount as r-w, and open build.prop in a text editor. Find the line that starts with ro.build.fingerprint= and change it to the following:

ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.1-update1/ESE81/29593:user/release-keys

Now from your homescreen, hit Menu>settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All, and find Market. Select clear cache, and then force stop. Then, still under All, find Google Services Framework, and hit wipe data, and then force stop. Reboot, and many more apps should show up!

I will recommend to work in Landscape mode when modifying this file so that you can see the current fingerprint line wraps; comment it out, and be very careful adding the above line and not getting anything wrong. (I did, and had to start over, but I just snap an Image of the whole SD card now before making any mods.)

Here's the line you'll need (may be easier to copy and paste):

ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.1-update1/ESE81/29593:user/release-keys

Leave the old line in there but commented out. You may find that you'll have to switch back and forth to get the apps you want (example: on the current fingerprint I could get Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons, on the above one I could only get Seasons). I'm hoping someone will come up with a good fingerprint for everything.

Thank you for the very helpful reply, so I need to by root explorer?

In another thread someone mentioned Super Manager as a free alternative to Root Explorer, but I haven't tried it. I figured I saved $300 on this instead of a tablet, so I could pay the couple of bucks for Root Explorer.

You should also be able to search and find apps elsewhere. Just download the .apk and install it, assuming you've changed the permissions so that you can install from other-than-market (Settings -> Application settings -> Unknown Sources (check).

When I navigate to system/and click build.props, i can see the line you said to alter, however not click on it to change it. Any ideas? How do you mount as r-w, I'm assuming that's the issue.
Thanks,
Matt

When you're in the System folder, at the top of Root Explorer there's a button for Mount R-W.

Additionally, if you just "tap" on the boot.prop file, it'll open in View mode. You need to do a long-press on the file, then a menu will come up with options of what to do to the file. Copy, open in text editor.... I recommend making a copy first, just in case.

As for your earlier question about how to comment out a line, it's by adding a # to the beginning of the line.

Bon chance.

The first time I logged in to Android MArket, I was able to send "Facebok for Android" App to NC. But then after that, for all othe apps, I get the not compatible crap. I'm going to try the Astro File Manager. Also one more thing, when I search on the Market (NC App) for any term, the results are crap. For eg. if i search for Facebook, it shows nonsense results, while on the other hand, when I seach on market.android.com, I get the right results. What's up with that?

Hey Guys,
I have purchased root explorer, but cannot install it on my NC.
I get "Download unsuccessful".

I was able to go into Market on my Backflip (with CM6 Froyo) and it installed just fine.
Any ideas?

I will also try the email route
