Marshmallow is installed in 1.2 % of Android devices as of February, 2016, with a lot of devices still waiting for an upgrade. By the time Android 7 is released, Android 6.x.x will have reached an estimated of 10 - 15 % of users max, so far Lollipop is around 35 % and "outdated" versions of Android are dominating the market with around 60 % of devices.

Devs always optimize their apps for the largest installed base, I wonder when we will see the first app "truly" optimized for M or even Lollipop 5.1.1 at this rate... (even though all apps benefit from newer Android builds by default).

Makes me wonder... isn't it time for Google to sit back and take it easy with the upgrades ? most users seem happy enough with 4.4.x, it seems there's no real urge or need to upgrade, I would have loved a jump from 5.1.1 to 7.x instead of 6.x, Marshmallow needs a lot of work in certain areas (external storage management) and there was no need to rush it to the market.

Thoughts ?
