Marshmallow for Tab S2 Nook

No update yet in NYC
Samsung states they recognize the device by means other than if it's conventional or a nook calaboration device.
This was their reps position on the phone. it doesn't matter. You will get it no matter what

After making another set of phone calls to Barnes Noble and Samsung cs I am beginning to wonder if the update is a sure thing. Luckily my main purpose for this S2 8.0 as the iPad mini would have been is for watching videos, youtube. I do little else. If I never get it I am unaffected but I do feel wronged if I do not get it.

The Marshmallow roll out seems haphazard. There are Tab S2's here in Hawaii that are getting it, while others are not. I was in California a couple of weeks ago and saw the same thing. Some had it, some didn't.

Sure , why not want to have an update on an expensive device with a solid rep.
I see so many issues with the reception of the update. I am checking in here once in a while only to see more issues arise.
This little tablet works really well for what I use it as. Without sounding like I'm settling for this existing version,if I never find an update on it I will always have a device I can easily get my monies worth out of. On the other hand I have reason to keep praising Apple for how they maintain my mac and tablets. They make it look easy. Samsung is not to be trusted.

The way Android devices are updated is not Samsung's fault. It is Google's fault. Google released Android as an open source OS; meaning OEMs (or anybody for that matter), could download it and modify it for free. This has led to severe fragmentation within the Android ecosystem.

According to some statistics I read, less than 30% of all Android devices world wide are on Marshmallow. Samsung right now has to support at least three or four different versions of Android.

The reason Apple and Microsoft devices do not have that same issue is because iOS, OS-X (soon to be MacOS), Windows and Windows Mobile are not opensource. Apple's iOS and MacOS only run on Apple devices, though you can modify MacOS to run on non-Apple hardware. Microsoft Windows and Windows Mobile can run on multiple OEMs' hardware, but the OEM's are not allowed to modify the OS or "reskin" it.

So both Microsoft and Apple do not support more than two OS versions. Furthermore, with Windows 10, the 96% of the code is shared between Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.

So, in a way, Samsung and other OEMs are as much a victim of OS fragmentation as we are.

If Google keeps allowing OS modification or re-skinning, OEMs will continue to do it. Thereby making the fragmentation worse, not better. So, yes. Google is at fault as well.

Google can still offer the OS for free; just not make it open source. Microsoft offers Windows for free for devices with screen sizes 9" and smaller. This would still allow Google to bundle its services with the OS and still allow OEMs and carriers to pre-load their apps and add device drivers.

Google benefits by getting its services out to be used, OEM's benefit because they are still getting the OS for free and won't need to support multiple versions, and we benefit by getting updates quicker and getting an overall more secure and useful device. It's a Win, Win, Win.

I read an article the other day about Barnes & Noble Nook. It said that B&N fired its CEO. I surmise that us Tab S2 Nook users are going to be waiting a while before we get Marshmallow. There is a lot of turmoil within the company.

Where have you been? Barnes & Noble has been on the decline for some time. I ought to know, I worked for them for ten years. When I left their employ five years ago I thought their demise was right around the corner. So far they've proved me wrong.

I for one do not care about my S2 Nook getting Marshmallow as it does everything I want it to now.

Actually, they were making money. Then they got rid of the guy who was making them money.

Check for updates. I'm downloading Marshmallow as I write this.

Anybody know when those of us with the Tab S2 Nook are going to get Marshmallow?

This update came to my nook 35 min ago. So far everything works well. No bugs. Took long enough. Samsung is loosing credibility. No big deal anyway but should have had it months ago. S2 nook updated with marshmallow...big deal!
I was just looking into the smartswitch app which kicks it to your s2 very handily. Check it out. The update just appeared when I turned on my s2.
