Marshmallow storage not working properly

I have an sd card installed in my Moto G4 as onboard storage. Today all of my app updates from the play store are giving me the insufficient storage error.

Yes I can see the storage is available. Yes I have a high quality card and yes I have rebooted.

Same thing happened a few weeks ago on my Moto droid Maxx 2.

What gives? Is this a known bug and now I am stuck with two relatively new phones that I can no longer update any apps?

Looking for solutions please.

When you inserted the card for the first time, did you select to format the card as adoptable storage?

Yes the card was selected and formatted as adoptable storage and I can see it is available but once again I just tried to update some apps and got the "insufficient storage" error message.

Anyone please?

Has anyone else had this issue and solved the problem please? I am still unable to update any of my apps.
