Massive 4G data drops

Riding along in a car, the signal switches from one tower to another and I lose data for a minute or more. ICS better fix this or I'm leaving Verizon. It's so bad that the phone cannot be used for anything data related.

Really ICS has nothing to do with the issue your having. It can be modified to work better with new radio files. The only help I can suggest is that you place your phone in 3G only mode. It will stop the phone from going in and out of 4G or even searching for 4G, thus not disconnecting your from the network as much. If that dont work you may want to look into a replacement. Is this a problem that has been ongoing since you got your phone? Is Verizons coverage bad in your area? Is this only happening with the RAZR?

I'm out of my home area. 4G bars never dip below 3. Switch between towers and bars go white and all data stops, sometimes for several minutes. This happens with each and every tower switch. If this is how the network works, then the networks sucks.

I dont seem to have these problems. I have driven from NJ to FL with very minimal problems. When I went to AZ I had problems. Leaving Scottsdale and heading into Sedona was bad.

I'm experiencing the same thing riding on a commuter train. It hasn't always been this bad. It's a 40 minute ride and it used to drop once, twice or not at all. Now it's constant data dropping.

I'm hoping ICS comes with a new radio and improves this. If it doesn't, I'll be contacting Verizon.

Its the network combined with the radio firmware. Ics fixes it. (I live in naperville and experienced what you're speaking of)

I am running 4.04 on the razr maxx, and I hate to say it, it aint much better - it may be worse even...

I think its not so much a radio issue as it is power. The motorola verizon version of ICS for the maxx seems geared to conserve power, why?

Well, after making adjustments to improve the experience, the battery on the maxx (using ICS) seems to drain quicker than GB...

Can anyone confirm this? BTW - I am not overclocking or anything like that.. just relieving the unit of animations etc...

As far as 4g, well, ok, 4g is fast, under the right conditions, meaning if nothing is disturbing the signal. It seemed that when I had just a 3g phone, it was pretty solid, no noticable interruptions - with exception of true dead spots.

4g seems weak - or can be interupted by any change in environment...

ICS improved my battery life if anything. A few reasons for this is I can now disable applications and the screen dims even lower while on automatic brightness. I'm sure there's a few more but those are the easiest to spot. I'm located near Joliet and Naperville Illinois and very rarely drop a 4G signal in any place I go. I never have this bounce of signal or a complete loss for more than a minute much less seconds.

Well, I am not having any issues here in FL. Just a side note though. I was looking for an app last night and ran across an app by verizon that fixes 4G issues. Sounded ignorant on their part for it being an app and not an ota update, however those using is said it worked for them. You may want to give it a try, its in the play store.

On the Moto Razr/Maxx forum it was mentioned that some 'task killer' apps, usually used to improve battery life, could modify 'some settings' that affected connectivity on VZW.

Moto developed this app to return connectivity settings to correct ones and there were suggestions that users rely on the phone software to manage apps and to make use of Smart Actions where needed.

No lists provided of troublesome task killer/battery life apps to avoid, so I can't help there.
