So I visited the Zoo here in the Stanley Cup Capital of the world, Chicago, IL. Brought my phone with, and snapped, snapped, recorded, and snapped some more all day long. Battery fared very well given I was GEO tagging each photo and video and was playing with a lot of settings and "scenes" to put the phone through its paces. Arrived at 3pm, didn't leave until 5pm and I had just shy of half my battery left. For some of the videos I just shut off the mics, because even with the "scenes" inside a Zoo, is just that a Zoo....I don't think my Canon 7 with my external mic would have fared any better. So do take the audio parts with a grain of salt in this setting.

Videos:
Help Me Poop Mr. Monkey

Turtles Getting Happy

Otters Under Water

Is This Just A Cat?

Leaf Cutter Ants Up Close

Look Around

Waterfell with Ferns

Bear Fight or Play

Here are all the Animals:

Animals @ Lincoln Park Zoo

SIDE NOTE: A lot of these were ZOOMED in to the max, obviously I can't put my 300m IS lens on my phone. So it gives you some idea of how the X can capture a decent photo at FULL Zoom

Thanks for posting those Aaron. That monkey is crazy. The last 3 came out particularly good.

I do have a question though... in your videos, and in some of the others I've seen posted, there appears to be some stuttering. Is this YouTube or that actually the camera doing that?

I don't get all of these blurry photos. I've seen really great shots and some really horrid ones. I read somewhere on BGR that there are 2 versions of the camera software out there. One is .514 and the other is .516. Which one is taking the better photos?

Edit: I just went back and read it. .514 is the common denominator in the bad photos and .516 was the improved one (obviously). But apparently there is now .604.

Unfortunately I think it may be the phone at this point, which videos in particular?

After looking them over on full screen it seems to be tied in with the ability to capture light and adjust when going from bright to low light levels. The camera itself also struggles with this. The frog pictures looked great right before I took them then came out dark.

That makes sense. Honestly I can't remember the last time I wanted to shoot video with my phone and don't think I ever will, so none of this bothers me. Still a good thread though, and I can see from your photos that my needs will be met just fine. It does a particularly good job with the close up shots I noticed.

is it me or is it my monitor (just installed a new monitor), but the videos and the pictures all seem slightly overexposed (too light.) Like I said, it may be my monitor as I haven't spent a ton of time calibrating it yet.

No they are, see above thread I think some tweeking is in order for light capture.

It's weird, some of the video and pics look great and some do not. I guess that's how it is with cell phone cameras.

Any chance you could upload some of the videos to Vimeo so we can get higher quality? YouTube sucks, and it's nice to be able to download the original from Vimeo. Thanks!
