Somehow using a battery saving app my master sync for my email account was turned off. I see where the sync setting is and it says "master sync is off" but strangely enough it's clicked "on"? Should I delete the email and set it up again?
Thanks!

Update: I deleted the email account in an attempt to add it again. Now it won't add it back. Saying cannot safely connect to the server? It's not my email provider. My email is coming in just fine on my ipad sitting here. Any ideas? Thanks

I restarted, took battery out. When you say clear app & data do you mean email app?

So finally after a few hours yesterday I was able to add my email account back. once again it told me the "master sync" is off??? I have checked and when I'm looking at the email settings it says my sync is on. Is there another master sync somewhere else that might be off? I have email set to push but it never comes through unless I manually refresh to get it!

Can you post a screen shot of your email sync settings?

Not to appear too ignorant (but I am in this case).. How do your clear the app and add data? I've got this same problem and I have turned my device off, removed the battery, waited and restarted. Problem still there: Master Sync turned off...

Thanks.. Ralph

Welcome to Android Central.

@dpham00 meant clear app cache and app data. Clearing cache is like tidying up, clearing data will lose added info and updates I think.

Settings - General - Applications Manager - scroll right to All (normally) find this app and touch to open App Info.

You learn new stuff every day!! Thanks for the info.. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem of the "Master Sync" being turned off :(

Well, I did resolve for myself, so I'll try to explain what I did (forgive the non-technical terms as I don't know what to call some things!)
From the home scree, I dragged my finger down from the top of the screen to access the notifications screen. On that screen, in the upper right, is an icon that looked like a chess board and took me to a screen of icons for various functions (WiFi, GPS, Sound, etc.) One of those functions is "Sync" and somehow it was turned off. When I turned that on, my e-mail sync started working again.

No idea how it got turned off but that fixed my problem of the "Master Sync" being turned off!

Thanks for the closure and glad got it working.

That's the main go to Sync button. Most assume everyone knows that, so avoid saying the obvious.
There has been a hysterical long thread running for months where every new post says I have found this green Sync button - try this. Then every post following says I have found the solution, try this, and repeats the same thing. I don't want to appear disparaging to them, but reading any of the previous 100 posts would help.
There is an alternative to the Sync button in Data Usage - menu button - Auto Sync on. It toggles the other Master Sync button and vice versa if you come out of the data usage menu to check.

Wow, wish I had looked up this message before. I've already deleted and added the account back. I'm very happy I found all of your posts. There are just too many buttons on this phone to know how to accomplish all of them. I clicked on the Master Sync Button and back to normal.

Thank you all very much,

Jason Lebrecht

Omg just wanted to say thanks, I have been manually retrieving my emails for months as I just couldn't figure out what "master sync turned off" was, I tried everything except what you did as I didn't even know that it was in there, so happy to have my emails come through again :) thankyou
