Hi everyone,

I just received my Razr Maxx 2 days ago and so far getting use to it. I'm coming from a Blackberry 9650, so I really have no idea about Android. I did briefly have an iPhone 4S, but no droids.

So far, I like the phone a lot, there are some things I miss from the blackberry but I'm dealing with them.

Initially, I was waiting for both the Maxx and Droid 4 to be out before making my decision, but then on an inpulse buy, I ordered the Maxx. I'm thinking about returning this and getting the droid 4, because I like the idea of having a physical keyboard.

I was comparing the two, and they seem similiar, except the Maxx has a 4.3 screen and D4 has a 4", which I'm fine with. I do not however understand the difference between what Super Amolded and TFT is. I'm assuming Super Amolded is better, but is this a big deal?

The other thing is the difference in battery. I'm a heavy email user (since its business) and txt. I dont play games or stream music on the device, and don't use the internet a ton, maybe once or twice daily. Its tough trying to figure out if sacrificing the battery for a keyboard is worth it, because i never had a slide out keyboard before, so I dont truly know if I like a slide out keyboard, or if there is even a different experience (better/worse) using a slide keyboard. I do type okay on the all touch, but due to the amount of typing I do, idk if keyboard makes more sense

Sorry for the long post, just trying to get some opinions on these two devices. they both seem like nice phones. The battery life on the Maxx has been great for me (again I'm not doing as much as most people)

Keep the Maxx! It is worth it just for the Battery. If the D4 had a killer battery then that would be different but any 4G device is going to chew up batteries like crazy and MOTO did the right thing and put a car battery in the Maxx. Good luck on your decision but as for me, I ordered the Maxx and am hoping to keep it for a while.

Ive had blackberry's myself and had a tough time leaving them do to the physical keyboard, but I got over it. The slide out keyboard in the droid 4 maybe a little better then the previous model droid 3, but its still nowhere near a blackberry keypad. Battery power, this is what your gonna need with a 4G (razr maxx, droid 4) phone, a strong, big battery. The Maxx has that big battery 3300mA compared to the 1785mA in the droid 4. I know you say that you dont use the phone for internet or mostly anything else, but trust me on this.... 4G sucks you dry. I think its gonna come down to the keyboard and if you dont like it then its not gonna work for you.

You may not even want to believe me but you will get use to the touch screen keyboard and you will never go back. Came from a blackberry 9500 and 87: something (curve) and thought I would like a keyboard so I got an Epic 4G. Took it back because the screen is better for typing and it made the phone bulky. As for the screen, yes Samoled is the best!

Thanks everyone. Anthony, I kind of figured it wouldnt come close to a blackberry keyboard...nothing does haha. I'll try to get use to the typing. I guess I can also go to the store and try out the Droid 4 just to see.

stupid question but if I was to get the Droid 4, will putting the phone to 3G only say while I'm at work help a lot with the battery? When I'm at the office, I don't think I'd need 4G on, especially since in my office the phone switches from 4G to 3G depending on the area of building that I'm in.

So Super Amolded is better, but is there a huge difference, or only to the phone fanatic?

I only turn on 4G when I need to download / transfer a large file. Turning off 4G will noticeable save you battery. As far as the screens go, it depends on how good your eyesight is haha.

I had a blackberry before coming to the droid world 18 months ago with the Droid X. I thought I would never get over a physical keyboard, because I had the old Treo, then Samsung something (with slideout), then blackberry, but I was amazed at how quickly I got used to screen keyboard.

Get Swiftkey X. It is a great keyboard.

The one thing I noticed about the slideout keyboard was that you were forced to hold the phone in landscape mode to use the keyboard. That is not a good feeling. It is ackward. Hard to hold. etc.etc.etc. With the blackberry (and Treo) having a keyboard in portrait, it is so easy to hold the phone.

With the touchscreen of the MAXX, you have the choice of potrait, or turning to landscape to get bigger screens.

Good luck

I came from a BB Tour to Droid 3 in September. I too thought I'd prefer the keyboard after having one for so long. To be honest the keyboard is nice, but for most short messages I just use touchscreen and don't bother with the kb. I'm actually now about to go from the Droid 3 to the Maxx because I really don't need the keyboard like I thought I would. For text length messages I just don't bother to open it up. If you're writing paragraphs at a time I'd consider the 4 for the keyboard, but a sentence or two is fine on the touch screen. This is really saying something for a guy who was addicted to my BB as recently as August 2011. HTH, Eric.
