Downloading now, amazing updates by this company, no regrets leaving Blackberry behind.
I still prefer my keyone over the essential and blackberry patches are some of the fastest in the biz.
The essential is a nice second phone but for productivity, mad typing, crazy battery life and overall security, blackberry still can't be beat IMO.
I came from a launch BB K1 to the Essential a month or so ago. I was reluctant because I was so used to my PKB's on the K1 and on my BB Classic and I remember not liking the VKB's on all the slabs nowadays. I loved the K1 PKB, size, display size, etc. but there is absolutely zero comparison between these two devices. The build quality and materials of the Essential absolutely blow the K1 out of the water, and I'm including the black edition K1 here as well. The update frequency is far faster on the Essential. While the battery life on my K1 averaged me anywhere in the high 30 to mid 40 hours on a charge with an average of around 7 hours SOT, my Essential is beating both those numbers by a fairly large margin. Essential is a faster, more fluid device as well. K1 has very clunky BB software on a not-so-stock older OS (7.1.1) where the Essential has the latest and greatest pure 8.1 and will get 9.x eventually.
Like I said, I loved the K1 but come on, there's just no comparison if you take the PKB out of the equation (which I do prefer as stated). My device is used for productivity and while I can type fast on the VKB, mistakes are a plenty where the K1 PKB, I had virtually zero typing errors.
I obviously enjoy both phones but battery life, keyboard and keyboard shortcuts make this my go to.
I use nova launcher and tried to set up as many gestures and quick nav features but in the end looking for apps is a pain on essential.
I find the build quality and feel of the keyone just as good as the essential. Also I prefer the classy grippy back and rounded edges of the keyone for in hand feel anyway.
The essential is way too slippery and smudgy making a skin or a case a must have. There is no comparison to in hand feel IMHO.
Keyone should get the oreo update in June I'm guessing which will bring software parity AND don't forget bb has a hardened kernel making it more secure than the essential when on same security patch.
I love the screen ratio of essential and it is a beautiful phone but I find I pick up my keyone first for anything I need to do.
I also find the actual antennae for calls better on keyone.
In the end, I need to have two phones and right now I am VERY happy with both. Both offer a great bang for the $$$
