Media Audio only not connecting to Car (Headphones Fine)

Hi Everyone!

I've done the best I can to try and resort to not asking someone because I don't want to waste anyone's time with a stupid question, I'll try to be as comprehensive as I can.

I have a Samsung S7 with the latest firmware for my location (G930FXXU1DQJ3/G930FXEU1DQJ1/G930FXXU1DQIL).

A few weeks to a month ago though my phone stopped connecting with Media Audio to my car (the car is a Skoda Fabia, no Android Auto).

It used to work flawlessly, then it became if I disconnected and reconnected once or twice it would connect with Media Audio, but now it just won't connect (but will still connect with Phone Audio, just not Media). This didn't coincide with any firmware update as I do them manually.

I have both factory reset the car and also forgotten the device on the car and also forgotten the device on my phone to no avail.

The only thing I haven't done is factory reset my phone, kind of because I am unsure as to the best method to load everything back on I guess!

I have a paid of headphones, Sony MDR-10RBT that connect with both Media and Call audio fine to my phone.

I've also had people connect their phones to my car, including a friend with an S7 who could connect absolutely fine and play music how I used to be able to.

So with it only connecting with Phone Audio now I'm not sure what to do!

I greatly appreciate any assistance I can get, I've started to miss my music quite a bit!

Any other information you may require I'll do my best to provide or clarify.

Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! If you're in your car and go to Setting>Bluetooth, then tap the gear icon next to the car stereo, do you actually see a Media Audio checkbox, or is it gone? If you see the checkbox and it's unchecked, then do you typically have some other Bluetooth device nearby that's connected for Media Audio (like those Bluetooth headphones)? Those could be competing for the connection.

Hi B.Diddy, thanks for the welcome!

Within the settings it only has Phone Audio and Contact Sharing, I believe when I first pair it shows Media Audio but then quickly disappears, and every connection after that it doesn't show within the list.

As for other devices that could be competing, I only have a paypal card reader, my headphones, and my car saved as connections on my phone, and the other two devices aren't always with me so I wouldn't say that was an issue.

Good ideas though! Sorry that it hasn't done the trick yet.

Hi B.Diddy, that's a new one to me, I'll give that a try tomorrow and report back! Apologies that I can't give it a shot sooner.

I'm unsure to the second question, is there a way for me to check? I just went to the 'Download Updates Manually' screen to check the current version.

I'm British and on the Network O2 so I think there are some alterations because the updates come to networks separately? I believe that's the case anyway.

Either way I'll give this cache a try and let you know, thanks B.Diddy for your help so far.

Wiping the cache partition is a useful troubleshooting step in general, and doesn't affect your personal data, so it's always worth a try.

If you still have the box the phone came in, look at the barcode sticker on it (there might also be a sticker on the back of the phone), and compare the model number there with what's listed in Settings>About Phone. Make sure they're the same. I'm not sure if different CSC codes make a difference -- these represent regional variants, which might have different default languages, widgets, features, etc, and could possibly lead to glitching. https://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33824

Are your headphones on and paired when you have this happen? If so, it's just that you can only pair to one media device at a time.

Hi B.Diddy,

I gave the cache partition a clear, twice actually, once by itself but the second after I'd also 'Reset Network Settings' too but to no avail.

Sure I can have a hunt round for the box, would you suggest in this situation to speak to O2 then if that is the case?

Or would it be worth just speaking to them anyway as this may not be an easy fix?

Any other suggestions of things for me to try in the meantime I'm happy to do.

Hi Dano1200r,

Nah unfortunately it's not that mate. I don't take my headphones with me to the office most of the time and again the only other thing ever paired is my paypal card reader and that also isn't with me 80% of the time.

Thanks for the suggestion though! Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Did you buy the phone directly from O2, or did you get it unlocked from somewhere else? If you got it from O2, it's certainly worth asking them about this issue. If the phone is still under warranty, you may ultimately want to contact Samsung for warranty repair or replacement.

Hi B.Diddy,

Yes I bought the phone from O2, I've used their Live Chat thing now and they've pointed me in Samsungs direction. I've had the phone under two years so I'll see what they say.

I'll definitely come back and give you an answer either way.

Just to continue the updates I have since spoken to O2 and Samsung and done a full factory reset of my device and am now waiting on further instruction.

I was told if the factory reset didn't work it may have to be repaired so we will see!

I've just checked and no, the only update is for the guidance.

Since speaking to Samsung they have said the only way for this to be rectified is to get it repaired.

I don't understand how both my car and phone can work correctly with other devices but not with each other.

I'll come back to you once I've had the phone looked at by Samsung.

Cheers.

Hey, did you get anywhere with this? My Samsung S8+ is having the exact same issue with my Seat Toledo which I believe has the same or very similar unit as the Skoda.

I have tried everything you have up to now and today upgraded to Oreo using the Offical download and this has made no difference. Sometimes media audio is visible under the Bluetooth settings but switches itself off when I try to enable, other times I get Call Audio and contacts and cannot see audio media at all.

Occasionally it connects when I enable/disable/unpair/pair everything a few times. There is no pattern to when it does this, but once connected it seems stable until I disconnect again. Very frustrating and so far Samsung don't appear to be very helpful .

Had exactly same problem. S7 trying to connect to bluetooth on car. Finally fixed by

1. Installing android auto and seemed to fix every other app.

2. Setting car itself onto BT audio...it's a separate setting....

Good luck!

I have the same problem. I have a T-Mobile S7. It just updated this week with all the latest from T-Mobile. All other stuff is up to date. What I have discovered is that the Media Audio disconnects, but the phone audio does not. When I go into connected device settings, it shows the Call Audio as connected and the Media Audio as not. This intermittently happens with all of my Bluetooth media devices.

The best option that I've found is simply to turn back on the Media Audio. But, this is not a fix, it is treating the symptom and not the disease. I've sat and watched it turn off by itself. Sometimes, this fix will last the day. Other times it will last a few seconds. No rhyme or reason.
