Media draining S3 battery overnight

Recently my Galaxy s3 battery life has become terrible, now even if I have a full charge of 100% before going to sleep the next morning the battery will either have died or have lower than 10% remaining.

The main cause of this appears to be through Media, although I have no idea what is causing it to run as it says within Media 'Battery used by applications'. It appears as though this is preventing my phone from going to sleep, any help would be much appreciated. Screen shots are below.

Try force stopping media, also have you tried rebooting? I've had the gallery do that and force stopping it stopped the drain.

The other possibility is a corrupted media file on either your internal or external SD card. Android periodically scans for new media files, and can get stuck on a bad file and just churn up CPU.

You need to have your phone stop downloading porn while you sleep:eek:
Silly question, but why isn't your phone on the charger while you sleep?

Anyway, it seems like you have some kind of media download/sync occurring, since that's not the normal Media app that's shown in your screenshot. Are there any services running for that purpose?

This is driving me insane, deleted a bunch of apps that I thought might have been the problem and formatted the memory card but still the battery drain remains.

I am having this problem also and it is becoming very frustrating because I need to charge my phone 2-3 times while at work.. and I don't even use it for the 10 hours that I am there.

Maya,
You can try
SystemPanel: http://market.android.com/details?id=nextapp.systempanel.r1
Or
Wakelock Detector: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector
to see if you can determine if there's an app or service running all the time and killing your battery.

You should also post the following 3 screenshots from Settings -> Battery.

Be sure the phone starts fully charged; let it get down to less than 50%; no charge cycles in between.

Thank you. I'll look into the apps and I'll post screenshots when my phone starts misbehaving again.

I Also have this issue

I do not understand what is meant by "Also, as the name obviously suggests, you need to have root !!" can somebody please help

I do not understand what is meant by "you need to have root !!"
Root access allows apps that request it Administrator-level rights to the whole phone. This can be a good thing, as it can allow certain apps to do things like stop the Mediaserver from running at boot time; it can also be a bad thing if a poorly written or malicious app decides to erase the whole filesystem.

In order to accomplish this root access, people 'root' their phones with special software that allows this capability.

It's not to be taken lightly and if you're new to Android I wouldn't recommend it.

Edit: welcome to the forums.
