Media player notification control buttons too small

I used to find the media player notification very useful on my old phone, but on Android 13 the notification devotes all its space to an annoying image that hides the tiny control buttons and makes the media notification bar pretty useless. How can I get rid of the image and make the control buttons much, much bigger?

There is, unfortunately, no way to modify that (at least not in stock OS options; you'd need to have a modified OS that changes that specific UI element). Another option is a to use a media app that displays the media controls differently.
