MediaPad M5 8.4 (SHT-W09) --- Will it be updated anymore in the U.S.?

I did some light searching and noticed there was Android 9 and EMUI 9 for the M5 out in the world. I saw something about a beta. There's a thread here about getting it on an 8.4 in the UK.

I've got Android 8.0 and EMUI 8.0 with the July 2019 security patch on my 8.4" U.S. version.

I haven't really been following this tablet. You've got all the political issues in play too. Does anyone know if this is the end of the line for U.S. updates?

I don't think we will see another version release for this tablet. Huawei has abandoned US devices. European M5's have been on 9 for several months now and are now receiving 9.1.

Do you think sideloading is a good idea? I looked into a bit but I am concerned it might break something that is needed on the U.S. model.

You would have to be unlocked to side load. It's doable, but not as easy as a Google device.

I'm unlocked and rooted but haven't side loaded it yet. I would check out the sections on XDA. They have more activity.
