Anybody know why this is draining the heck out of my battery!
At one point today it had used more than my screen had!

Could be a few things. Too much crap on your sd card and/or corrupted stuff on there, background apps that are going rogue and use the sd card a lot, such as music players for example, or even just other apps that use media server and are going rogue for one reason or another.

If I format my SD card, Would putting pictures back in dcim folder be a bad idea or should I just start from scratch? I did have a lot of files from previous phones that i just copied and pasted to this phone. Do I need to reflash aokp afterwards?

It appears as if something is waking the phone like every 5 mins. The only thing I have synced is gmail but I've never had trouble like this before. 3rd charge of the day and still have 10 more hours at work!!

I mean, if there's no corrupt data in there then it should be just fine to put your pics back in DCIM afterwards. I recommend using this cleaner from droidth3ory:

It will basically wipe everything, sd included, but will leave your system intact.. So you can boot into your current rom right after flashing it. He wrote it when a lot of people were complaining about media server wakelocks and the like.

Like I said tho, if the issue is due to an app you just want to not have that app, lol.

my bet is on some rogue app you have installed. I would probably wipe your phone and leave it naked for a few hours, dont install anything. If you dont notice mediaserver taking a lot of juice again then start installing apps one or two at a time for a while until you come upon the problem app.

It has to be an app that accesses movies or music. Those are the only things that cause the media service process to run.

Thanks guys looking into it...I'll keep you posted!
