My wife got a new Note 10+ which she's happy about, got it from the Microsoft store with their $300 discount price. The Microsoft store rep was able to activate the phone just fine, updated OS to Android 10, plus inserted a new Kingston brand 256GB micro-SD card.
I later downloaded a bunch of pictures to the micro-SD card via connecting the phone to my Windows laptop, that all worked out fine. The other day, wife tells me her pictures all disappeared. I tell her that can't be true. I checked her phone album app, but there were no pictures present. Strange. I then checked the Samsung "My Files" app which showed that there was no SD card inserted or recognized. That's a problem.
So I used the special tool to remove the tray holding the memory card and re-inserted the card. The memory card was then recognized by the phone again and all her pictures showed up again. To help ensure this same problem won't happen again, I copied all her pics to my laptop, then did a format of the memory card via the phone menu. By the way, it's a bi@tch to find the format memory card menu choice with the new Android 10 version. I'm pretty sure the Microsoft rep did NOT do a format of the Kingston memory card at the store, which might have contributed to the problem? Don't know for sure. I then copied the pictures back to the memory card (after doing a formatting erasure). So hopefully this same problem won't happen again.
Questions: This ever happened to anyone else? The wife certainly didn't un-mount the memory card, cuz she simply doesn't know how. Is there a problem with the Kingston memory card? I normally use Sandisk cards, so I have no experience with the Kingston brand. Is there a problem with the new phone? There is a 30 day refund policy from the Microsoft store, so I have time to make exchanges if necessary. This has personally never happened to me before, so I know this was a rare occurrence.
