My wife got a new Note 10+ which she's happy about, got it from the Microsoft store with their $300 discount price. The Microsoft store rep was able to activate the phone just fine, updated OS to Android 10, plus inserted a new Kingston brand 256GB micro-SD card.

I later downloaded a bunch of pictures to the micro-SD card via connecting the phone to my Windows laptop, that all worked out fine. The other day, wife tells me her pictures all disappeared. I tell her that can't be true. I checked her phone album app, but there were no pictures present. Strange. I then checked the Samsung "My Files" app which showed that there was no SD card inserted or recognized. That's a problem.

So I used the special tool to remove the tray holding the memory card and re-inserted the card. The memory card was then recognized by the phone again and all her pictures showed up again. To help ensure this same problem won't happen again, I copied all her pics to my laptop, then did a format of the memory card via the phone menu. By the way, it's a bi@tch to find the format memory card menu choice with the new Android 10 version. I'm pretty sure the Microsoft rep did NOT do a format of the Kingston memory card at the store, which might have contributed to the problem? Don't know for sure. I then copied the pictures back to the memory card (after doing a formatting erasure). So hopefully this same problem won't happen again.

Questions: This ever happened to anyone else? The wife certainly didn't un-mount the memory card, cuz she simply doesn't know how. Is there a problem with the Kingston memory card? I normally use Sandisk cards, so I have no experience with the Kingston brand. Is there a problem with the new phone? There is a 30 day refund policy from the Microsoft store, so I have time to make exchanges if necessary. This has personally never happened to me before, so I know this was a rare occurrence.

If there's a loose pin connecting to the card, or the card has an intermittent problem, the card will unmount. If the phone is still under initial warranty (2 weeks), I'd ask for a replacement )a new phone, not a refurb). Of course the card could be the problem - Kingston buys the chips from SanDisk or Samsung, the only companies that make them - and everyone but Samsung and SanDisk could be getting seconds.

Soooo, bottom line, it's hard to tell whether the problem lies with the phone or the Kingston memory card? The Microsoft store has a 30 day refund policy, it's been about 2 weeks now. If the same problem happens again, will definitely return the phone within 30 days.

If there really is a problem with either the phone or card, would the problem happen very regularly or sporadically or maybe never again?

I had that issue with my previous Huawei Mate 20 Pro and its NM Card... Ended up selling both. I suspect the memory card. Did you try other cards?

Did your same problem persist over and over again? Do you think it was the fault of the card or the phone? I haven't tried any other cards. Doing a wait and see if it might happen again before the 30 day return period from the Microsoft store.

Mine happens every 2 to 3 days. I even tried using a thin tape to press the nm card against the reader. But the issue still persists. I remembered making a thread here about it. And in the end im just tired of buying a USD$150 NM Card and its crap. Some says its the OS killing the process.

The wierd part of it is that i didnt evsn touch my phone and theres a notification saying Eject before taking out the memory card. But i didnt need to mount it and everything is still there. But pictures in gallery needed a while to reload the thumbnails.

Oh okay, so it was a regular problem. In my wife's case, that problem only happened once in the past 10 days since buying the phone. So maybe it was a one time occurrence hopefully.

What do you mean by "nm" card?

NM Card is Huawei's proprietary microsd... Launched together with the Mate 20 Series... Very expensive... 150 bucks for the 256GB version.

Wow, geez, that is expensive relative to cost and size. I hope it was at least UHS-2 speed versus UHS-1. Regardless, it doesn't matter if the card is defective.

At that point of time. It has the same specs as the SanDisk Ultra MicroSD... And it is UHS-I... My current N10+ however uses a SanDisk UHS-II MicroSD but the speeds arent optimized as the phone doesnt support UHS-II...

Twice my SD card has shown as not inserted since I got my N10+ in December and both times a reboot magically made it reappear! Never happened with the same card in my N9

Just want to give an update on this. Fortunately, this problem never happened again on my wife's new Note 10+. I'm guessing maybe the Kingston memory card got un-mounted by itself because it was never formatted before usage? Don't know. It's been over a month and it's now past the return period from the Microsoft store, so I'm thankful for not having to return/exchange the phone. The Note 10+ is so much better than her cr@ppy iPhoney 8 phone. Plus I know how to do stuff on the Note phone for her, whereas she had no clue how to troubleshoot her iPhone, and I couldn't care less for that piece of you know what.

Good on you for putting out an update and great it didn't happen again.
Formatting the card in the device it is used always seems to be a very good idea and also unmounting it before removing it.
As I remember, the Note 4 or maybe it was 3 had a terrible reputation for corrupting and frying sd cards if you didn't, especially the expensive Sandisk cards

Hmm, I had both the Note 3 and Note 4, plus the Note 2 as well. I don't recall any memory card problems with any of those models. I must have lucked out.

I didn't have any problems myself but it was discussed quite a bit on XDA
