Memory Leak 4.3?

Lately my T999 S3 has been having issues with running out of memory (RAM). I haven't looked into it deeply but it happens at least once every day. Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, and Simcity Buildit are three games I play and after I go in and out with each app for a bit every few hours a time comes where the phone acts up. The biggest issue is where Simcity crashes to the main screen. Once that happens the phone is slow and sometimes it takes 1-3 seconds for the one page of app icons to load when going from an app to the home screen. When I check my RAM usage it says I'm using approximately 1.4-1.5GB with 20-40MB of RAM left. I clear my RAM and the RAM usage still stays at 1.2-1.5GB. Only fix is to reboot the phone.

Anyone know what the issue is here? I use to have these issues with my computer if games were coded wrong and some ended with leaked memory. Sometimes it was because my ram was faulty with errors. I'll be upgrading sometime in the near future but it would be nice to know if this problem is fixable. Phone is running on 4.3.

Although you shouldn't have to force close apps in Android for the most part, it might still be helpful for certain apps that perhaps aren't coded that well. I would suggest that after exiting from any of those games, go to the App Manager, select the game and Force Stop.

That's the thing and the reason why I am calling this a memory leak. After I close out of the app and swipe the app from the multi tasking bar I clear the RAM. But after that the RAM is still using 1.5GB of RAM. I then go to the App Manager in the Settings app and the game is not opened at all. Additionally a lot of the apps say they are restarting, and there is little to no cached apps running either. In this case there is no 'game/app' to close. Which leaves rebooting as the only option.

Swiping an app away from the Recent Apps list doesn't necessarily force close it--it depends on the app. Sometimes all it does is remove it from the Recent Apps list, while it continues to be open in the background. When you go to the App Manager and select the app, are you saying that the "Force Stop" button is greyed out?

I know that swiping doesn't necessarily close the app. I feel I know enough about using an Android device perfectly fine up till I have to trouble shoot something I can't without further access. I'll try to explain it as detailed as possible. In short though the game is not showed as running at all on the device.

During my typical usage the device will begin using 1.5GB (almost all the RAM) at some point. App/Game will crash to the Home Screen.

I hold the home button to open the multi-task and swipe to get rid of the app. Next I hold the Home Button again to bring up the Multi-Task screen again. I press the very first icon on the bottom left that looks like a pie graph. From here I go to the RAM section and press clear memory. But when I do this my device is still using 1.5GB of RAM out of 1.56GB.

After clearing the memory I will continue into the settings app. From there I go to Application Manager and then the 'Running' section that shows all the running app/processes. From there I look for the game/apps that are likely to be the culprit of the high RAM usage. The thing is those apps are no where to be found on the 'Show services in use' nor 'Show cached processes' tab. So in the end I cannot close these apps as they don't show up at all. Additionally I can go to the questionable apps and force close/stop them but it will not free RAM once again. So far I have force stopped every single app that did not come with the phone itself. Still using 1.4-1.5GB of RAM. I will force stop each app and see if it frees up memory but I it looks doubtful

Sorry, I wasn't trying to imply that you didn't know what you're talking about--you clearly do. Wanted to make sure we were on the same page.

Not really sure what to suggest next. The phone's unrooted and running the official ROM, right? You could always consider rooting and trying a different ROM, but of course, that doesn't really answer your question directly.

Haha, no I know that was not your intentions and that is not how I took your comment. I only said that first part of my comment so I saved both your time and mine. Didn't want to have you waste time giving simple suggestions that I have tried.

Yes it's unrooted, never has been, and on the newest official ROM. I think the first thing that will be done is to factory reset the phone and see if the problem exists. If not rooting and trying a different reliable ROM is a possible choice, although I would like a Lollipop or at least a Kit Kat ROM but very little exists at all for the T999. But for now I don't want to do that. I need to backup my save files on my games before I do any sort of reset.

Thanks for taking time to reply to my thread it's really appreciated. A factory reset, rolling back to older ROM/firmware, unofficial ROM, if I do all of this and the problem still exists there is a chance the actualy RAM chips on the phone has gone bad I guess. That or the Sims Buildit game is very inefficient like pretty much most games by EA in my opinion. I went through and force stopped every single app/process in my 'All' list and no positive change. Sigh

Just an update I have rooted my phone after backing up my game files. I tried installing a lollipop beta ROM but couldn't get it cellular to work so I am now rooted on the official rom. Phone seems to run better but not quite sure yet. I uninstalled lots of bloatware though.
