Message store: is it still there in 4.4? can you restore if you flash factory image?

After flashing my N7 to the 4.4 factory image, and restoring 90% of my apps/data (and it went very well, using Helium Pro, CWM Touch, and CWM Superuser), I'm thinking of doing this on my N4 with the newest 4.4 factory image. But my concern is the message store. I don't see anything for Hangouts available to backup or restore in Helium.

The help page for using Hangouts for SMS states that SMS messages are NOT synced to other devices or web.

So ... how do I know I can restore my "message store" backup on 4.4? Anyone tried this specifically?

Workaround ... Helium developers found that only the SMS app (and Hangouts now I suppose) are allowed to write to the Phone/Messaging Store ... in Settings | Data options ... SMS default app, you need to anoint Helium the default messaging app before restoring the store. After that, it restores just fine. SMS app displays the messages in the wrong chrono order, but the Hangouts app shows them normally.
