This has been an intermittent problem with my S4 which is barely 5 months old. The first times it happened I was in McAllen TX & it was 105+ degrees. So I attributed it to heat even though I did not ever leave my phone in the car for obvious reasons.

Since I've been home though it still happens two or three times a week. Today, for example, it's in the low 50s and it's happened 3 times already. Is my card dying or is something more sinister at work here?

BTW, I regularly restart my phone about once a week just to clear everything & apply any updates. Seems to work better that way.

I have T-mobile's JUMP so if it's a phone issue I'll just trade it in before it craps out completely.

Thanks

I would wonder if there's a problem with the SIM card connection (dirty contacts?) or the SIM slot. It may be worth asking T-Mobile for a replacement SIM, but if that doesn't help, then I'd suggest either contacting Samsung (since the phone should still be under warranty) or trading up.

I had same issue, turns out (in my case) it was my NFC enabled SIM card. I found a Non NFC SIM card and haven't had any issues since then. I guess it's a workaround but if it gets my phone working, I can do without the NFC.

Thanks to you both. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Been sick as a dog for the last week or more.

Turns out the SIM reader in my phone might be failing. Noticed today that PowerAmp player volume is acting up too when connected to headphone jack in the car and is clipping at low levels via Bluetooth so there's something bad going on that involves the main board (if it's put together like a PC and I'm guessing it's pretty similar).

The good news is that T-Mobile is treating it as a warranty replacement because the phone's pretty much pristine ($5 vs $175 with JUMP). New phone should be here tomorrow. This will make my 3rd S4 in about 13 months as the screen cracked in May on my first one, which killed the entire display. Don't know if this is common with this model but, if so, it speaks volumes about Samsung's QC if not their entire design.

Thanks again!
