Messages App Suddenly Very Laggy

In the past month or so, very often when I reply to a text message the screen is blank for 10 seconds or so before the conversation comes in.

Curious whether anyone else has experienced this.

Does clearing the app data for the Messages app also wipe out any saved message threads? I don't see a separate Messages Storage app in the system, so unless you know for sure, might just want to clear the cache for now.

Yeah it's fine Google back up will repopulate it again.

Any reasons to not wipe all messages?

I've seen (and this is WAAY back in the day) having too many saved message threads causing slow-downs.

I had 274MB in cache.... Cleared that, appears to be snappier. I do have a lot of messages and threads...
