Messages notifications vs. Messages app interface

I just got my watch today. I am coming from a galaxy watch 2 active. So maybe I'm just not used to the wear os interface. But when I get a text via Google messages, the text looks very basic. But when I open the messages app it looks the way I would expect it to. Is there a way to view the texts on the notification the way it should look in the Google messages app?
On the active 2, it would show the text bubbles and everything. But on this watch, no bubbles, just shows the current text. I have to open the app manually. I would think if I tapped on the text it would open the messages app. Is there a way to do that without having to Open the app manually?

There's a pop-up type notification (if you have that set) but then when you tap on the one in your notifications tile (scrolling to the left from home screen) it will open and you can do whatever you need. I think the main advantage to having messages installed on the watch is to view threads, better view of images, etc.

I know what you're saying though, the WearOS will give you its notifications and they're slightly different. I'm not sure there's a way to shut that part off without shutting off the notifications for texts.

So that's the thing, when I check the notification and try to open it, it doesn't open the messages app. No matter what I do. I have pop up notifications turned on but it does not open the app. I just get the basic look and feel. I just want to tap on the notification and it open the messages app. It doesn't seem to be working. But all my settings seem to be right.

Yeah, that could also be a Samsung thing. I've never used Samsung messages on my GW4 and don't plan to use it on this watch. Perhaps someone reading this who uses Samsung as the default could answer if the messaging app launches when you tap the notification.

No. I'm using Google messages

I understand you're using Google messages, what I meant was to get the functionality you're referring (tapping notification takes you to the actual messages app) may only work when using Samsung messages. When the GW was Tizen, using any app other than Samsung for texts on your phone would greatly limit texting from your watch.

I am wondering if Samsung has it set in which you won't get the full integration of a messaging app still unless you're using Samsung messages on both phone and GW running WearOS

I tried Samsung messages as well and it's the same. I thought the same thing you just said.
