Messages problem w/ Android Auto

I am on AA 7.1.614574-release and Google's Messages ver. 10.7.461 (10.7.460_RC01.phone_dynamic) on my S21+.

I no longer get any notifications when connected to AA when a SMS comes in. If I tab the bell icon (which has the red dot), I see the new message, but when I tap on it to have the system read it, it just fails. The system will not read new texts from Messages. If I go into the Messages app on the unit, there are no message there.

I can send messages via voice, but receiving them is borked.

Would rolling AA back help here?

I have found that sometimes Google Assistant "read back" doesn't work very well and will fail to play a message. Could that be what you are experiencing?

Maybe, but I don't know. It seems that the new AA update broke the Messages integration.
