Messages+ settings problem

Went into Settings/Sound to change a sound file for incoming messages. As soon as I select Messages I get the message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." It was still running, though. If I select Call, Email or Calendar it takes me to the valid next screen.

Tried something else. Went to Settings/Applications and selected Messages. Same error message. Selecting any other option works OK.

I had WhatsApp installed so I deleted it just in case. No fix to problem. Also cleared cache. No fix.

The Messages+ app works fine. Seems I just can't change any settings regarding it from the Settings app.

Which cache did you clear? The app cache? If so, try clearing the system cache partition: Reset: Samsung Galaxy S 5 | T-Mobile Support

I cleared app cache, system cache and uninstalled updates to Messages+. I even reenabled VZWAVSServices. Nothing helped.
