Messaging Someone from Contacts?

How do you insert a contact into the "To:" box when trying to message a contact. I try to enter the name and it just shows up as what ever number the letters represent. So far, the only way I can message a contact is to already have a conversation going with them or to find the name in Contacts and then select it and select SMS so and so. It would be much easier to insert a contact from the messaging folder when selecting compose new message.

I noticed that when I typed a contact's name sometimes it would just show numbers. I finally figured out it was when I had their mobile number listed as home number. Go back and check your contact and see if that is what is happening for you. Simply choose edit the contact and just use the drop menu to change from home to mobile.
