One of the few things I miss from my iphone is the messaging app. So nice and simple. I'm not fond of having the message app show contact pictures. And I cant seem to find a theme or background that looks polished/not cheap. What is everyone using for their message app/theme?

Try handcent or go sms. They offer a lot more customization options and yielding to look like ios is that's what suits you.

I just use plain black or white behind blue or the black and grey bubbles... Wish there were more colours too choose from like red or something

Just curious as I've seen this in other threads. What reason do you have for disliking contact pictures showing up in texts? I personally enjoy this but probably wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it. But why strong dislike? I can't imagine a reason someone's contact picture could ever upset me. I'm trying here but what am I missing in life that contact pictures would upset me?
While I do like that HTC allows us to customize the stock app alittle with colors and background images...I always run GoSMS...Until the stock app allows that much customization (fonts..themes..etc)..I wont be using it
