I have posted about this before but I wanted a separate post. I have a Nexus 6 from AT&T running 5.1. I have had it since Dec. 31. From day one it seems I have had trouble texting. On the Google messenger app sending texts hangs up and can take forever if it goes through. I researched this and saw a "fix" on here that seemed to work for a lot of users, deleting in my case non AT&T APN, that didn't work.....tried Hangouts, works OK but at times I have the same issue, also s times incoming messages take forever to download....I have also tried various other texting apps, same BS..

With various android phones behind me I have never had this issue like this, it is extremely frustrating , the other night I had a group text for the Cub scouts, it was a disaster trying to text and receive messages.

So, what is the problem here?, AT&T?, have had them years and never a problem....is it 5.0/5.1?

This is common with incoming messages

Do you have MMS enabled? Is data enabled? Because MMS on android phones can't go through unless LTE is enabled. If so, there still seems like there's an issue with the APN settings. Can you restore it to default? (I'm not on the nexus right now so I can't tell.)

Hi, thanks , I have reset to default.... I can't seem to find a specific setting to see if MMS is enabled.... I cellular network is set to LTE recommended.....

His settings are fine. Google just can't get it right with MMS.

Well me and everyone that I know that has a nexus isn't having MMS issues. Nor is it a widely reported issue. I do agree that Google sucks at MMS generally but his issue is definitely a settings issue.

Since you agree that Google sucks in general with MMS, I would proffer that it is definitely not "definitely a settings issue".

I have none of those issues. I'm using a 32gb on vzw with messages plus and not one issue. Also this is not a vzw phone it came direct from Motorola

I had those issues when I had my Note 4 and m y wife's Note 4 still has those issues with the messenger app. She had to go to Verizon Messages.

Side note: I was REALLY hopeful that Google would turn Hangouts into an iMessage type of experience but it's been very disappointing to say the least. It would be great to have that type of unified user experience. That is the ONE thing iPhone's have that Android is missing out on (in my opinion of course). I gave up on Hangouts when Messenger came out. I can't understand how Apple and Facebook can get messaging right and Google can't even get a whiff.

So, I did another factory reset , let's see , all settings are out of the box...have not changed a thing....sent a few texts this morning......"sending" was there for a bit but they went through...

Verizon messages got me curious.....so I looked at AT&T Messages app....not compatible with this device....

Ugh, opened a case with AT&T, spoke with them and a specialist will call within in 24 hours , here is me trying to text this morning , maybe I just got a funky phone?

I have the same issue with ATT and the excuse they gave me was that SMS/MMS is based on signal strength which can cause delays. Two of my buddies have the Nexus 6 on VZW and have never said anything to me about issues with SMS/MMS. They both came from iPhone 6/6+.

I don't have any issues with my stock messenger receiving and sending.. I don't use hangouts.... N6 on ATT

Started using Textra this week. The functionality, reliability, not to mention dark theme, are vastly superior to the Google products.

I might try Textra,, heard good things about it...
Anyway , like I said since last messenger app update not issues ..... My son had first communion last Saturday and I was sending pix to people like crazy, one text had several images , took a while to send but they all went through

Well, my Nexus 6 never did get texting properly, updates to messenger app didn't fix the issue, using Hangouts didn't fix it , Textra etc didn't fix it....for whatever reason my handset was a dud when it came to sending SMS and forget MMS, it was just useless at sending or receiving MMS...this all came to a frustrating head last week when I got so fed up I called AT&T. I was told I needed to pay up six more Next instalment payments to be able to trade in ....wtf? I had made 18 payments. ...I was upset and reached out on Twitter to express my disappointment , nothing nasty, just hey I've been with you guys since you bought out Cingular. ..got a reply in minutes, verified it was me, took my #, got a call next day, same thing. I could pay up the 6 payments now and get a new device. I figure I would just muddle through, very frustrating though.

Got a call again Monday, Dennis said Conor give me a minute to resolve this .....would a new phone help?, would you take a Samsung straight up free of charge and just continue to make the Nexus payment? .....I don't have any Nexus 6 or 6P to offer....I said I like the Note 5 for size.....Denis had it sent overnight and I got it yesterday after I got home from work..it's a win win, I get a beautiful phone , albeit running 5.1. But hey I can text and really I am loving this Note 5. And I can upgrade in 6 months anyway....maybe to the new Nexus...I lived the Nexus 6 but as I said texting for me was awful. Dennis didn't even want it, the device is clean like new ....maybe it gets better with an update to N....right now it's in its box .
