Method for WhatsApp QR codes independent from web.whatsapp.com

Hi,

I wonder if it´s possible to generate and use WhatsApp QR codes that directly initiate a WhatsApp chat session directly on your cellphone when scanning the code (e.g. directly from your notebook screen). Would you know any workaround for it?

The QR codes generated by WhatsApp itself only seem to synch your mobile app with the desktop browser, and finally with initialize WhatsApp web on your desktop.

I also noticed that these WhatsApp Web QR codes only work when at web.whatsapp.com.
If I take a screenshot of a code, embed it somewhere else and scan it with my cellphone, it will throw out a sync error.
It would really be great if these codes (or other valid WhatsApp QRs) would work independently. Same here, I´d be quite happy if someone knows a method to avoid this issue.

Kind regards,

You're looking at it all wrong. The QR code generated by Whatsapp's web page is just that, a sync token for the web interface (and embedding it elsewhere wouldn't do anything because the web interface wouldn't be active, and because the code itself changes every minute or so).

What you want is a QR code with a LINK to a whatsapp chat, which I believe you can do (see below for Whatsapp's official 'Click to Chat' info) and there are quite a few tools/pages out there that do that. You'd need either the page or an app to turn that link into a QR code, which can then be launched on your phone (Whatsapp will 'intercept' the action once it detects a valid link), BUT you need a QR app to launch the link; Whatsapp will only scan that for web authentication, not to launch links.

Hi Droid,

many thanks. I knew the Click to Chat URL method, but you were correct: I looked wrong at the whole question, by focussing on the WhatsApp Web Sync funftion and the URLs generated by WA.

It´s much easier and now everything´s fine: I generate unicoded WhatsApp Click to Chat URLs and convert them to QR codes. It works simple and as desired.

Kind regards,

Glad it worked for you! I've also seen 'chat.whatsapp.com' links around for adding yourself to groups and such, but I'm not sure if those work or if I imagined them haha
