So if Metro PCS gets 4G... here in the Detroit suburbs. Taylor,Livonia, romulus, woodhaven. Does that mean sprint isn't far behind? I thought metro pcs was cdma?
Here is hoping that is the case.
Thoughts?

From the fine print: *4G is LTE coverage only

Translation: Suck it, Motown!

Also, Verizon is CDMA/LTE, so us Sprint folks can just look to Grand Rapids with envy.

Sprint isnt putting 4g in Detroit because they simply dont want to. A friend of mine told me his cousin works for the Sprint Wimax/Clearwire effort, and was told to transfer to Grand Rapids before the Evo was announced because Sprint didnt think Detroit was a viable enough area to release 4g in.

Kind of funny to me, because every time i look at my bill(thats mailed to the metro Detroit area by the way) I still see that $10 service charge...?! Guess we're viable enough to pay for 4g, just not to actually use it huh.

That's messed up because their are more Sprint users in Detroit than Grand rapids, unfortunately their are more Metro PCS users in Detroit than Sprint, Verizon & T-mobile, I shouldn't have to pay $10 for something I'm never gonna have!

Your friends cousin, huh! Did he happen to see bigfoot while he was there in Canada visiting his girlfriend? (We wouldn't know her since she is from Canada....) Anyways, on a more realistic note... I know this guy who spent an hour on the phone with Sprint and after getting transfered to about 5 different people, and mentioning the fact that Verizon just lost a class action lawsuit regarding "improper data charges", he got the $10.00 monthly "premium" charge waived for 12 months. That "guy" was me. Not my cousin's best friend's next door neighbor. The lawfirm who handled the class action suit was: Goldman Scarlato & Karon, P.C.. Begin your discussion with the Sprint rep armed with knowledge (and persistence), and you may accomplish something!!

i believe the 4g is already available from metro in detroit i read awhile ago where the sprint 4g markets were going to be before the evo was released and much hasnt changed from the areas in which they told were going to have 4g from then till now. myself i am content with 3g whenever i can use it in detroit

I would be blown away if Detroit got 4G. I work in the city, around the wayne state area (out doors all day, not in a building) and pulled down a maximum of 10kb/s and 1 kb/s upload throughout the day with a ping over 1000ms. That's good for... lets see.. Google Talk sometimes, and gmail push notifications. It's terrible speeds. I run at least 1 speed test a day usually between 11am and noon in hopes that one day on my lunch break I'll actually be able to USE my phone!

The speeds aren't so bad in the early morning, say 7am till 9am. But once the world wakes up and gets moving you can forget about any type of real 3g speeds.

Detroit is lucky to have "3G", in my opinion.

Here's to hopes for a better mobile data network in the future. :-/

i live in port huron 45 minutes away and i get lousy 3g i only get "true" 3g when im in the city even then its not all that great :/
