MHL adapter not working on Sony Z3 for Google Play Movies

AC Question

I have an MHL adapter that plugs via HDMI into my TV and Micro USB into my phone, a few months ago I could connect my phone and watch movies in the Google Play app from my TV, however recently when i plug the adapter into my phone the app stops working, any ideas anyone?
