MHL adaptor issue

So I bought the Samsung MHL adaptor so I can hook up my phone to a monitor and basically use it as a computer. Yes I saw a ton of videos on youtube on this but I noticed that once I plug it in I lose service I dont know if thats the norm or what? Also It seems no matter what I cant get any settings to fit the phone to the computer screen and last any suggestions on what launcher I should use thats always works in landscape mode? Thanks
