Mic is missing from homescreen and from keyboard on Android 4.4. Homescreen has stopped running. How can I fix this?

Mic is missing from homescreen and from keyboard on Android 4.4. Homescreen has stopped running.

Have tried bringing up keyboard options by pressing and holding while in text screen, to no avail. We have 2 phones, both android 4.4. The mic on one phone works and the display reads "google voice typing" under language and input. On my phone, where mic isn't displayed, it reads simply "google keyboard".

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have? Go to Settings>Language & Input>Voice Input​. Do you have any options there that are selected?
