Micro SD card eating battery?

My sd card died, so I upgraded from a class 4 to a class 10 yesterday, and now my battery is draining 8-10% an hour idling with only the phone radio on instead of just 3% previously, why?

I doubt the card has anything to do with it, what was the cause of the card dying? I think that may be where the power drain is coming from.
