Micro USB?

If u take the base off on the Google home and in the side with no speaker there is a micro USB port. So I unplugged the Google home and then go my phone charger and plugged it in but nothing happens. I never tried plugging it in the computer. But I was wondering if there is and answer to why there is one and what it can do and also if there is anything planned for in a future update about adding functionality to it. Thanks

I think it was said that the port would be used for diagnostics and updates.

Given that you have to remove the base to access it, I very much doubt its going to be functional for anything other than diagnostics etc.
