Microphone stopped working

Odd issue - just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

A few days ago my G4 microphone stopped working. I would make calls but the person at the other end could not hear at all. Also voice search or any other voice apps would not work. But interestingly, it works if I switch to speakerphone! So don't think there is anything wrong with the mic itself. Bluetooth or wired headset work fine.

I tried rebooting, rebooting in safe mode (in case bad app was causing this) removing and reinserting SIM and even poking around the mic hole to make sure no dust was in there (one common fix, although that wouldn't explain why speakerphone worked).

Anyway, I contacted AT&T who said it's still under warranty so they are going to send me a replacement. Whew!

The speakerphone typically uses the secondary mic, either alone or in addition to the primary phone mic. So if there's a problem with the primary mic, people can still hear you on speakerphone. Glad you're able to get a replacement!

Ahh - that would make sense then!

Interestingly the G4 I have now is already a warranty replacement for the bootloop issue I got a couple months back. At that time, the one they sent me was another within the serial number family that was known for the bootloop. Curious now if this next replacement will also be in that range of serial #s or not.
