Okay, after some investigation, it seems the Nexus 6 uses two mics for recording. The main one at the bottom (I think it's in the speaker grill), and one by the camera (?).
The one for video recording is fine. The main one for everything else is so quiet it can't hear it without putting the volume on full.
I tried a mic boost app but that didn't do anything other than play a distorted sound through the speakers. I'm going to try a factory reset since I didn't after the 5.0.1 update.
Does anyone else have this problem? In that their mic for sound recording is real low?
