I recently persuaded my wife to upgrade from iPhone 4 to a Samsung A5.I had done research and as she isn't really into all the technical stuff just social networking and online shopping I decided a "mid range "price phone would be best.As some people may know someone stole my S6 recently and I'm back on my HTC M7 which was a excellent phone when I first purchased it.Im finding the camera and battery life are major negative so will be buying a new phone when I can afford.Anyway I must admit I've been extremely impressed with the wife's A5 in fact if it had a fingerprint censor I doubt there is much difference in quality between it and a flagship device. For instance though I loved my S6 its battery life sucked whereas the A5 one seems to last a lot longer. The camera is not up to the S6 but it's still very good.It leads me to wonder if it's really worth paying 200 quid more for a flagship device now that mid rangers have upped their game .Anyone else think the same?

You raise a good point--more and more manufacturers are making phones with a midrange price but with impressive specs and performance. But there are still some disadvantages, if you look at the comparison: Samsung Galaxy A5 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 - Phone specs comparison

1. The A5 is only 720p, so if screen resolution is important, the S6 and its 1440p screen is far superior.
2. The S6 has a 16 MP camera, compared to the A5's 13 MP camera--this isn't a huge difference, but where it comes in handy is if you want to crop a photo down significantly. The resultant photo will be better resolution with the 16 MP camera.
3. The S6 is capable of 4K video recording.
4. The S6's processors are significantly more powerful, which is important for processor-intensive apps like complex games.
5. Flagship phones are always more likely to get system updates for a longer duration than midrange phones (although updates bring their own potential glitches, so people should always be careful what they wish for!).

On the other hand the A5 still has a microSD slot (which is best used for storage of media like photos, videos, and music).

Good point Mr. Diddy.
Another point is better to buy last year's flagship than this year's mid range. So it would have been better if you would have got Galaxy S5 instead of A5.
Also when it comes to mid range devices from big companies like Samsung, Sony and LG they are always a rip off. Almost always.

You could be correct but the A5 has a more premium feel and the Camera is the same as the S5
