Mid-screen pulls now open search feature

I think this came in with either the first September update or the last August update, but it is annoying as all get out. Before I could pull from anywhere and get my notifications and now I have to pull from the top or I get this search or find thing. Touching the 3 dots on this screen gives me some options but none related to not opening this screen. I guess I'll have to look through Good Lock to see if something in there can change this or may be responsible for this but it's driving me crazy.

This was less about asking for help to figure it out, which if you know how to turn it off, that would be amazing, and more about asking if anyone likes this? I have the Ultra, and now that I'm writing it in print it sounds lazy for sure, but it's a lot of work to reach the top of the screen, on this tall device, to pull the notification shade down. Especially when you're used to being able to grab it from anywhere. Oh sure make me have to change the default so that I don't get the app drawer pulling up or down, but hey here's this new gesture we're just going to add to screw with you. Maybe if they had made it so you had to pull from the very bottom to get your app drawer, you know, where your thumb already is, then pull up from above that to get this silly menu of stuff that most of us probably don't use anyway, and still allow us to pull down from mid screen to get notificaitons, that would have been better. IMO. At least they wouldn't be making you go all the way to the top for a gesture. Wasn't that one of their big feature things not long ago, One Handed Mode, where they were going to make things more accessible so we weren't stretching or working to reach areas of the screen? Or, and hear me out on this, maybe don't make it some kind of default thing. There's no reason they couldn't have made this an option like having to opt out of having the app drawer open in every swipe direction.

Just saying. Guess I'm off to figure out how to or if I can turn this off.

Hi Vid

Go to home screen setting and toggle on the pull down notifications panel anywhere

That's weird, it worked, thank you for that, but it's weird because I feel like I already enabled this to stop it from opening the app drawer in both directions. So now instead of 2 app drawers we get this search screen? I'm guessing this either reset itself during one of the updates or I accidentally turned it off somehow. I for sure wouldn't have gone back to that setting right away, so thank you mustang7757 for the insight.

You talking about this search screen? Circle to search , if you have that enable with the home bar at the bottom it will go to search

No I'm getting this screen.

It's more like searching from the Settings screen. Looking for apps, settings and files.

So I'm thinking regardless of how my setting reverted, whether I accidentally changed it or one of the updates glitched it, this was Samsung's answer to being redundant. Having both swipes up and down open the app drawer was never a good idea so now they have separate functions. Why not just make it the navigation shade and the app drawer, which is what I would argue most users want, who knows? For the same reason they make us page over in the app drawer instead of scroll down. And yes I'm still waiting for vertical scrolling in the app drawer, and more upset than just saying the word "upset" conveys, that it isn't back. Give us a switch for that Samsung! That feature was my original reason for downloading Good Lock and it's been gone now for months with vague mentions of its return but no signs of when, if ever it will.

I played with this for quite a while last night & can't say if I have ever noticed it before.
🤔
(It's probably due to the way I have to push & drag the upper left-hand corner of my screen due to the fat lip of my phone case.)

I can see how it could be annoying after a while, especially if you receive a lot of notifications.

I just checked my husband's Galaxy s24 Ultra. His phone doesn't have the September 2024 security patch yet.

The mid-screen pull still brings down the notification panel, so that September patch must have triggered the change. Not that it helps any, but it could be bug.

Maybe we should start reporting in the Samsung Members app!

@BerryBubbles maybe you missed it in my replies, but my issue was that the option that makes pull downs notifications and swipe ups the app drawer had become disabled somehow. Once I enabled it everything returned to normal.

Now I'm not sure if I somehow disabled it. I rub my screen on my shirt often to clean it, and have notice that sometimes it opens weird menus or random apps. I may have changed something in this way but it also happened around the time of an update so a bug could have caused that setting, which I had enabled before, to disable resulting in this issue. If it hadn't been for @mustang7757's suggestion that I look at it again, I would have gone on thinking that it was still enabled and would have looked in other places assuming it was.

One thing that is new though, is that it used to be by default that swiping up or down opened the app drawer. Now it seems that the default is up is still the app drawer and down is the search menu. It didn't make sense to have two gestures do the same thing and it was weird that they would.

Go to settings>apps>scroll down to One UI home and tap>go to storage and tap>clear cache then force stop it
See if your launcher works properly

@VidJunky

I did understand your original post & I was at a loss on that. (Not surprisingly 🤣🤣 I'm at a loss often)

But my second post, which I didn't make very clear, was just to mention that the mid-section swipe, from the top on my device now brought up the search, and the left hand corner swipe from the top still brought up the notifications. In my Husband's case both swipes still brought up the notification panel, however, his device was on August security patch & mine was on September. So this had absolutely nothing to do with your situation. Not sure what I was thinking 🤔. Sorry!

Edit: Meanwhile, the attached pic shows this was now disabled on mine. I toggled it back on & things are back to normal. So my moot post continues to grow....
(Scurries off to find a bag to place over my head. 😞)
