Does anyone else not get excited about phones these days?

I had the Oneplus 9 Pro and I thought was a pretty good phone. But returned it when I saw the S21 Ultra. I'll say, to me, it seemed like that phone was 90 percent of what the Ultra is.

Sure, cameras have a few more tricks up their sleeves, tad bigger battery and more stable and quicker updates.

But for most ppl, seemed the oneplus has it. Plus cheaper.

Guess I'm just spit balling here though.

Or am I wrong?

The changes are not as drastic as they used to be. Maybe its because they release yearly. I think they have topped out on the size. Guess a drastic change for most would be a foldable, if thats what you want and in your budget. For me I'm not there yet. But there is always us idiots who will jump to get the latest and greatest. I'm good for a couple years with the s22ultra i think. At least i say that now LOL

Ha. I feel you. I've looked at the Fold and for me, just not feasible.

Just looked again and tmobile has dropped the price to $729. I think that's a killer price for the phone. I'm just torn. I just use a few apps, snap a few pix here and there, just trying to see what I need vs pricing.

I still get excited about new phones and buy them. Everyone is different but if you are looking for drastic changes year over year that's not going to happen. Most people here know that and we are just into gadgets. Definitely not a need but more of a hobby and I still get excited for every Samsung, Google and Apple release. Love them all. OnePlus I used to buy them as well every year but recently I don't like the direction of that company and I don't prefer their phones anymore. That might change in the future but currently I prefer Google, Samsung and Apple. Granted I'm not looking at value here and giving more of an enthusiast opinion

I still get excited but not like before. Back when the Note 4 was coming out I was super hyped.

This forum, to me, is a specific niche (particularly during preorder time). A lot of us are enthusiasts to some extent and love having the latest tech, even when it isn't a major upgrade. Whether replacing their phone once, twice, or more a year, that's not the norm. It feels like it here, but the average population keeps their phone for longer than that.

And frankly, that's okay - whatever end of the spectrum you're on. I think you're less likely to get sympathy here when it's a bunch of people who pre-ordered the latest, but it's clearly opinion, not right vs. wrong.

Although the S22U isn't a huge upgrade from my N20U, I was itching for a new phone and am happily upgrading now that Samsung offered the integrated spen again. I agree that a Fold would be a more unique experience, but the tech and price isn't quite where I want it. (Now, build in an s pen and I'm more intrigued...) Am I blown away by the S22U? No, but am I still happy about the upgrades it gives? Yes.
