Let me play devils advocate here. Why shouldn't Google advertise in the GMail app? Google is an ad company. They provide an awesome OS and awesome email free of charge. If they do not advertise, they have to either start charging for their services or stop offering the service. Personally, I do not want to pay for GMail. I also do not want GMail to go away. If that means I have to see ads when I use the GMail app, I am fine with that.
