I had my installer buddy hook up the new Viper Smartstart remote start system with a Android interface. It?s VERY cool to be able to lock/unlock and start your vehicle using the Evo.
The install was rather straightforward...for someone with years of practice
It hooks up like a standard remote start system with the addition of a GSM module that you must mount that allows phone to truck access. There is one year of service included, and then it's 30.00 a year...not bad for that level of remote access. The unit also comes with one keychain remote. In my instance my truck didn?t come with any keyless entry, so that?s just another plus for me. Once the system is installed by a ?certified? installer (my buddy used to be, but he?s out of the biz) you go to a website to enter in the system ?airID? and register the unit to the user. (Hint?the website is restricted to dealers but we were able to find a login/password available online in 10 minutes via Google) Once the system is installed and registered you test remote connectivity from the website, download the app for your phone, login with the username and password?and it?s done. As for security?Unless someone gets your username and password, installs the app and configures it properly you?re pretty safe. At least as safe as any other app loaded on your phone currently.
The ISN?T a DIY friendly install unless you?re comfortable splicing into your vehicles factory harnesses?but the convenience of remote start and door control is worth it in my opinion
