How can I cast my s10 to my monitor, I have the laptop linked to the monitor via HDMI, which leaves a DP connection free.

I can't install any software onto the laptop as its a restricted Work Device... hence want to connect directly to the monitor.

Would I need a special lead or something like Chromecast? Also can it be connected via DP?

Also the ease of switching to and fro, from having the laptop display on the Monitor then Mobile phone on the Monitor... while working on the laptop screen...

Also a layman's pros and cons between Mirroring and Cast... thx all.

Can you connect a Chromecast to the monitor's HDMI port and change the laptop to one of the other monitor inputs? Or does the monitor have more than one HDMI port?

Hi Mustang7757, I will look into Samsung dex.
Hi B. Diddy, was thinking of another way before I purchase a Chrome Cast device, the monitor only has 1 vga, 1 hdmi and 1 DP... the laptop has one HDMI only... I rather not mess around with the laptop as its company property.

Also if you could explain in layman's the difference between Mirroring and Casting... I've googled it but can't find an understanding definition... sorry but I have a learning medical condition... and can only really find learning Videos useful... thx again guys and apologies for sounding non technical.

I agree. You need to connect your phone to the monitor with usb c to hdmi cable. Then activate Samsung Dex on your phone. It will give you a desktop interface but you can access everything on your phone. Or you can just use it to mirror your device.

It gets confusing because you can cast without mirroring and mirror without casting, they aren't the same thing.

To cast is to wirelessly transmit video from a device to an external display. The screen doesn't need to be mirrored.

To mirror is to duplicate your device display on an external disolay. This can be done via cable or casting.

I'll use my Surface Pro and Roku TV to try and explain. On my Surface Pro if I want to connect to my TV I can do it wirelessly by casting or connect it physically via HDMI. Once I connect my TV whether I'm casting or using HDMI I then need to decide if I'm extending my display for dual monitor use(run separate programs on both screens) or if I want to mirror my display.

Hope my explanation helped.
