Quick update: The folks at Missing Sync did refund my money. They tried several times to fix the problem. It seemed to hang up on specific contact records. There is no way for the lay person to know which are causing the problem.
I'm using Motorola Motorola Media Link. It has some quirks, but it is free and works pretty well for photos, videos and audio.
But, I'm still looking for a better solution.
