missing texts

I just noticed that messsages older than a month are missing from one of my contacts. Help how can I get them back and stop this from happening again?

You can stop it happening again by

Find your messaging app in the app drawer and tap on it.

Then tap menu/settings key

Uncheck "delete old texts".

If you can't find the contact history you may not be able to recover old texts.
