Mixed-destination groups for messaging

May a group (or list) for text messaging include an email address in addition to cell phone numbers?

While MMS works pretty much like an e-mail, unless the carrier supports MMS to e-mails, nope. And even then chances are carrier only supports that directly to e-mail, not mixing recipients (basically you get an e-mail address assigned to your number, which can be used for replying to the thread, but it would have to be initiated through e-mail, which wouldn't let you add phone numbers).

Thanks. Verizon, the carrier, permits messaging (SMS) to and from an e-mail address, but according the fellow who made the attempt, it rejected the inclusion of an email address in a group list (of wireless/cell numbers).
